The challenge

This was done as part of a hackathon to design an innovative product for education for youth with challenges accessing learning opportunities and bandwidth.

The prototype

This was a project I pursued earlier in my Figma journey. I was the lead designer on the project and helped design and develop the prototype. The idea was centred on building on existing online learning materials and finding a way to provide them in an accessible manner. Since there was no time for user research, we considered our existing contexts (the Philippines and South Africa) and built a product around our exposure to the challenges of both of our communities.

Some distinct features of the prototype included:

  • Relevant categories needed for youth
  • Customisation for data preferences
  • Low data mode for users to cater to their bandwidth preferences
  • Curating existing material (TEDx, YouTube)
  • Gamification to make learning fun
  • Tutor bot to help learners find interesting materials
  • Unicorn randomiser to give you materials based on how long you want to learn (e.g. 5 minutes)
